Beware of Scams Impersonating FSC or Financial Examination Bureau Officials

2025-10-13
The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has recently received feedback from the public that fraudsters have been impersonating officials of the FSC or the Financial Examination Bureau. These individuals contact persons via email, falsely claiming that their bank remittance funds have been “frozen due to irregularities,” and that the matter can be resolved through assistance from FSC or Financial Examination Bureau.
The FSC would like to clarify that neither FSC nor Financial Examination Bureau has access to individual persons’ banking records. They do not review, monitor, or freeze any personal bank accounts or transactions. The roles of the FSC and Financial Examination Bureau are to formulate financial regulations, supervise financial institutions, and conduct financial inspections — not to intervene in personal financial transactions.
FSC and Financial Examination Bureau will never contact the public by phone, email, or any other means to handle bank remittance issues. They also have no authority to examine, control, or freeze any citizen’s funds, nor will they ever request payments such as deposits, verification fees, taxes, or guarantees for any reason.
If you receive a call, message, or document claiming to be from FSC or Financial Examination Bureau — especially if it alleges that your remittance has been restricted or requests that you transfer funds — please do not panic or comply with any payment requests. You may verify such cases by contacting the FSC or Financial Examination Bureau directly at (02)8968-0899, or by calling the National Police Agency’s Anti-Fraud Hotline “165” for assistance.
Once again, FSC and Financial Examination Bureau stress that they will never proactively contact persons, freeze or manage any personal funds, or request any form of payment. The public is urged to stay alert and work together to prevent fraud.
