FSC authorizes a new regulatory sandbox experiment for stock gift cards
2025-02-27
The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) approved an application from SinoPac Securities Corporation (hereinafter referred to as SinoPac Securities) on 27 February 2025, who aims to conduct a one-year regulatory sandbox experiment on stock gift cards.
This is the 10th regulatory sandbox experiment approved by the FSC. SinoPac Securities will issue and sell electronic stock gift cards allowing purchasers to use them personally or gift them to others. The holder of a stock gift card can log into the SinoPac Securities’ online platform, enter the redemption serial number, and convert the card’s face value into funds that can be used for stock trading (including settlement amounts, handling fees, transaction taxes, etc.).
The FSC noted that this is the first time a securities firm in Taiwan issuing stock gift cards. The project is innovative and has the potential to attract people with on prior experience investing in stocks, offering them the opportunity to engage with and learn about investment and financial management. To promote financial inclusion and the development of fintech, the FSC encourages individuals with innovative technology or business models to apply for conducting sandbox experiments under the Financial Technology Development and Innovative Experimentation Act. The FSC is also happy to provide potential applicants with guidance and legal consultation.
