Press Release
Securities Market’s Matching Interval of Intraday Odd-lot Trading will be shorten from December 19, 2022 to Improve Matching Opportunities and Efficiency of Intraday Odd-lot Trading
2022-09-13
The intraday odd-lot trading system was implemented in the securities market on October 26, 2020 in order to attract small-capital investors. By lowering the threshold for investors, the channel for buying and selling odd-lots during intraday trading hours was added to facilitate the effective use of investment funds of the small-capital group.
According to statistics, there were about 680,000 new securities accounts opened as of July 2022, of which under the age of 30 accounted for 43.8%, and the age between 31 and 40 accounted for 23.9%. This shows that young people are quite concerned about the development of the securities market. With the launch of the new intraday odd-lot trading system, the average daily trading value of odd-lots on the TWSE was NT$1.876 billion (0.56%) (Oct 2020 to July 2022) which is significantly higher than the average daily trading value of NT$223 million (0.12%) before the system was launched (January to September 2020), and there is still further room for growth.
In order to improve the trading opportunities and efficiency of the intraday odd-lot trading market, the securities market will shorten the matching interval of intraday odd-lot trading from three minutes to one minute on December 19, 2022, thereby improving the liquidity of odd-lots and optimizing the intraday odd-lot trading.
The FSC said that in order to improve the convenience of odd-lot trading, it has requested the TWSE and the TPEx to revise odd-lot trading regulation by shortening the matching interval of intraday odd-lot trading, and enhance the promotion activities on the securities firms and investors to achieve the goal of inclusive finance. The FSC reminds investors that they should carefully evaluate the transaction costs and their own financial situation, understand the companies’ financial and business fundamentals, and pay attention to relevant investment risks.
