The FSC likes to advise the public that a media report alleging that disabled people in Taiwan cannot purchase medical insurance, accident insurance or life insurance but only national health insurance is not true. Taiwan’s insurance companies have been offering insurance products for disabled people over the years. Those products include life insurance, injury insurance, health insurance and annuity. As of end of March 2019, there were close to 200,000 such policies in force. Since the opening of microinsurance in July 2009, 86,000 disabled people have purchased such insurance as of end of April 2019. So the report’s claim that disabled people cannot acquire medical insurance, accident insurance or life insurance but only national health insurance is not factual.
