Taiwan and the United States enter into MoU to cooperate in the supervision of cross-border clearing organizations

2023-11-24
The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has been actively pursuing closer supervisory cooperation with regulatory authorities in various countries. Through collaborative efforts between the FSC and the relevant departments, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that establishes a cooperative framework related to the application of the Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX) for exemption from Derivatives Clearing Organization registration in the U.S.
Under this MoU, the FSC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), acting as the designated representatives for TECRO and AIT, respectively, will cooperate and share information in supervising cross-border clearing organizations. This arrangement is a requirement for TAIFEX to obtain a CFTC exemption from registration as a DCO, strengthening the ties between Taiwan's and the United States' financial markets.
The FSC will continue to expand the cross-border financial supervisory cooperation network, strengthen the supervisory framework, ensure a resilient financial market, attract foreign investors to invigorate Taiwan's market, and enhance Taiwan's global competitiveness.
